Senior Associate for Research and Training

He currently works as a Senior Associate for Research and Training at the Latin America and Caribbean office of JPAL - “Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab” . At JPAL, he works on the Government Partnerships program in Brazil, specifically in partnership with the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) of Brazil.

Data Scientist

As a Data Scientist at the Minas Gerais Social Data Office (EDS Minas) at SEDESE, I was responsible for managing the Secretariat's main databases and analyzing and generating sociodemographic data to provide a scientific basis for the social development policies created by the agency. I helped diagnose, monitor, and evaluate the public policies developed by the agency. The most common tasks included: extracting, manipulating, storing, and analyzing databases; writing various reports; creating dashboards; and generating tables, graphs, maps, and statistics using the R language. We used databases such as CadÚnico, PNAD, Censo Demográfico, Censo Escolar, RAIS, SIM, etc.

Researcher/Data Scientist

Data Scientist and researcher at Afro-Dados, a data office focused on developing scientific research on the racial problem and racial inequalities in Brazil. The office is part of AfroCebrap, and is headquartered at Cebrap (Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning). Among the functions performed at AfroDados is the construction of indicators and an evaluation strategy for two major international agendas in Brazil, focusing on the racial dimension, namely: the UN 2030 Agenda (Sustainable Development Goals) and the Decade for People of African Descent (2015-2024), also from the UN.

Researcher/Data Scientist

I participated, as a researcher/data scientist, in the Solidarity Research Network . I worked on "bulletin 34", which deals with the analysis of Covid mortality in Brazil and its impact on the dimension of occupation. Among the tasks were the manipulation, cleaning and analysis of the SIM - Mortality Information System database and the use of regression models to calculate odds ratios of deaths from Covid among different racial and occupational groups.

Data Manager

I worked as a Data Manager at the MOA LAB (Malaria Immunity, Genetics and Population) at USP, on research into the Epidemiology of Malaria in the Amazon. In Brazil, the research was led by Prof. Dr. Marcelo Urbano (USP). At a global level, I was part of the Data Management Center, led by Prof. Dr. Márcia Castro, from Harvard University. The research involved teams from three countries: the USA, Brazil and Peru. My responsibilities included managing the data (processing, reviewing, and allocating it to local repositories) that arrived from the fieldwork in the Amazon and liaising with the Data Management team in the USA to allocate the data to the data repository of the NIH (National Institute of Health), the US health research agency, the main funder of the research.
